Imagine if those who hit women, or who vote against upholding the Violence Against Women Act, had to push through lengthy reading lists that included the stories of those impacted by such decisions every time they made such thoughtless decisions. Imagine if, before voting on nominees to massively influential government positions, congresspeople had to read books about the significance of those roles, and about the dangers that come from not treating them with due gravity. There are books that can be prescribed for all instances of thoughtlessness, all acts of incidental cruelty, that we encounterand those of us who have ourselves been changed by books, or by long periods of learning, know that titles that are actively engaged do have the power to transform people. Thats even more true for young people still deciding who they areThe Color Purple, introduced at the right moment, stands to modify a young persons path. Make them more feminist. More intersectional. More empathetic. Criminal justice reform discussions often find one side arguing for curbing prison privileges, like education for the incarcerated, even though education is known to reduce instances of recidivism. Theres a direct correlation between empowerment-through-knowledge and lowered likelihoods of illegal activity.   It is no less than brilliant to rush ahead, find those at risk of crossing lines, and thrust books into their hands that present them with better options. The victim stated that the days between her reporting the crime and attending the trial she had no contact or information relating to the trail until just 2 week before hand â€Å"The criminal justice process leading up to the trial was not much better from a victim’s perspective. I did not hear from my prosecuting barristers until two weeks before the scheduled trial — leaving me to spend 11 months in confused anxiety about the prospect of testifying. † â€Å"How can rape victims be expected to assist the criminal justice system in convicting their attacker, when there isn’t even a proper counseling service to help them through this very harrowing process? †(www. belfasttelegraph. com) It is easily seen from this specific example that the criminal justice system is simply focused on one thing, which to convict the criminal and punish them accordingly. There seems to be no regard to the victims feelings, concerns or anxieties, but simply referrals and advice, on where to go to achieve help and comfort in an attempt to deal with the traumatic event of being raped. â€Å"No one told me that a service like Victim Support existed until a few weeks before my trial (and 10 months after my attack). † (www. belfasttelegraph. com) (2009) It has been seen as standard practice to observe that the ‘victim’ has long been the forgotten party in criminal justice as the Colin Glen Forest Park victim’s story demonstrates. Victims appear very often appear as complainants and applicants for compensation, or as a witness giving evidence, but thereafter they are unfortunately very much neglected. It is only recently that the victim now forms the focus of a substantial area of enquiry within criminology. There is now a requirement for sufficient attention to be paid to the needs and rights of the victims. (Newburn. 2007. Pg. 342) Crimes vary in their nature and therefore the impact of the crime on the victim can vary also. Goodey (2005: 121-2) lists a range of emotional, material and social needs that victims may need to have met in the aftermath of crime. This list consists of: reassurance and counselling; medical assistance; financial and practical assistance to secure property; information about case programs; guidance about what to expect in court; the chance to express how the crime affected them; and information about the release date of the offender. (Newburn. 2007. Pg. 353) In is only in recent years that these needs of victims have been taken into account and there is now such a thing called ‘victims policy’. This policy ensures that the needs of the victims are being met and there is now a substantial raft of services now provided to protect the victim and their rights. (Newburn. 2007. Pg. 358) Duff (1988) argues that there are two discernible trends which illustrate the impact of the ‘victim movement’ on the Criminal Justice System. The first is the introduction of state funded compensation schemes. These schemes had the aim of trying to strengthen the relationship between the offender and the state. The second was the introduction of compensation by the offender to the victim. This aimed to increase the importance of the victim-offender relationship. This therefore became the start of criminal injuries compensation, and it was through these schemes that the needs of the victims were officially being recognised. (Newburn. 2007. Pg. 358) In 1959, the government published ‘Penal Practice in a Changing Society’; this is what resulted in the setting-up of a party which were to examine the proposal of introducing the schemes for payment of compensation to victims of violence. The proposal was then passed and was called the ‘Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme’, also known as CICS. It came into operation on the 1st August 1964. (Newburn. 2007. Pg. 358) An example of a recent payment of compensation to a victim is that of Lucas Da Costa, 32, while working for Lindon foods meat processing company, suffered severe head injuries when he was hit by 255 kilos of crates as he lifted them using an electric pallet truck at the Granville Industrial Estate plant on 25 February 2010. The father-of-four was rushed to hospital and then transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital where he was treated for bleeding onto the brain as well as multiple fractures to his skull and facial bones. The fine was imposed on 4th May 2011 at Antrim Magistrates Court where NI Water pleaded guilty to making a polluting discharge to a waterway and breach of consent. Antrim mayor Pam Lewis welcomed the fine saying she hoped it would act as a deterrent. (www. belfasttelegraph. co. uk) In another incident, two construction companies have been fined over the collapse of a building owned by the Law Society in Belfast. The building collapsed in March 2008, injuring six workers. JH Turkington and Sons Ltd and Ripley Developments Ltd were fined a total of ? 1,000 for health and safety breaches. A Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) investigation found that the collapse of a temporary supporting structure, known as false work, caused the incident. It was estimated that approximately 150 tonnes of concrete, 25 tonnes of steel reinforcing bars and four tonnes of false work all came down in the collapse. (www. bbc. co. uk) This increased recognition of victims needs developed even further; there became an increased desire to protect children who had been victims. Many of the child victim’s experiences were particularly traumatic itself; never mind the trauma of having to give evidence in court also. After numerous protests, the requirement in ‘The 1988 Criminal Justice Act’ was abolished that stated that the child had to give evidence in court. This was enforced in order to protect the child and instead the use of video recordings was introduced. (Newburn. 2007. Pg. 362-363) In 1986 in government then took the decision to provide core funding to victim support. In the first years the scheme mainly focused on the victims of conventional crimes, such as burglary. During the 1980s they became progressively more involved in providing support for a wider range of victims. This came to include victims of racial harassment, families of murder victims, rape and serious sexual assault. Victim support demanded that victims had the right: to be heard; to be kept informed about the progress of ‘their case’; be protected by law enforcement agencies; to receive compensation as well as ‘respect, recognition and support’. Newburn. 2007. Pg. 363-364) This led to an increased interest in victims within the criminal justice system. Victims support started running a series of victim/witness support programmes in seven Crown Court centres, and now, the organisation provides a witness service in every criminal court in England and Wales. The first victim’s charter was published in 1990. This was the first acknowledgement that som e victims may have entitlements (not rights) because of their victimisation. In 1996 the second victim’s charter was published. The charter covered police responsibilities for providing information to victims, familiarisation with the courts, together with details of the complaints procedures if the standards set out were not met. From this charter victims could expect to get: contact details for police officers and leaflets on ‘Victims of Crime’, information on case progress, chance to explain how the crime affected them, information on the offenders release, treatment and support if attending court as a witness, expenses for attending court, and also emotional and practical support. (Newburn. 007. Pg. 364-365) In 2002, a White Paper, ‘Justice For All’, was published by the Home Office. Its aim, it said, was to rebalance the Criminal Justice System in favour of the victims, witnesses and communities. Their aim was to increase detection rates, reduce delays, and increase the conviction rates. (Newburn. 2007. Pg. 365 669) Northern Ireland has numerous areas in which victims can recei ve support. These include the PSNI Victim support, The Public Prosecution Service, NICS, PBNI Victim Information Scheme, and The Prisoner Release Victim Information Scheme. These aim to help people affected by any type of crime. They provide emotional support, information and practical help to victims, witnesses and others affected by crime. (www. victimsupportni. co. uk) The Northern Ireland Justice Minister made this response in July 2010. â€Å"Northern Ireland must have a Criminal Justice System which puts victims and witnesses at the core. As part of this, it is of paramount importance that victims are provided with the necessary support and that they have confidence in the service they are receiving†. Although many improvements to victim support had been made, there are still many changes to be made. The NI Criminal Justice System has made commitments for 2010/2011 to: provide victims and witnesses with easier access to information; ensure that specific and timely information is provided to victims and witnesses in relation to their cases; continue to work with relevant voluntary agencies; recognise and be responsive to victims and witness’ individual needs and also to make victims and witness’ views made know to the CJS. It seems to be a simple solution to ensure that the victims of crimes should be put at the fore front of the investigation, ensuring that they receive the best care and guidance possible in an attempt to raise the comfort and awareness of the conviction process, therefore raising the belief in the criminal justice which in turn, will allow other victims to follow suit thus raising the level the convictions, instead of concentrating on just the legal aspects of getting the conviction, which seems to be the case at present. People are very often not aware of the services and support groups available to them in the event of a crime, and they are relaying on the people within the legal profession and their knowledge and the CJS to inform them of such services. It’s bad enough that they have to suffer at the hands of the criminals, but to suffer at the hands of the criminal justice system is totally unacceptable. It is beyond doubt that the criminal justice system needs a reform, so that it takes into account all aspects of crimes, from the victim to the sentencing. They may see an increase in assistance from the victims if they focus their attention on them rather than being simply focused on one thing, which to convict the criminal and punish them accordingly. The Duke immediately wanted to remove Valentine away from his daughter and he did it, he banished Valentine from Milan. In the meantime, Proteus was faking that he wanted to help Thurio to win Silva’s love. In conversation with Proteus, Thurio was persuaded to pay musicians and play serenade under Silvia’s window. After Thurio finally decided to do so, b efore the musicians started playing, Proteus told him to hide and leave him alone in order to help him to win Silvia. Of course it was just a trick for poor Thurio, because Proteus’ intent was to make Silvia think how he prepared all this show for her. At the same time Julia has decided to go to Milan and look for her love Proteus. After her arrival to Milan she found out that Proteus was already in love with another woman and was very disappointed. Since she did not know what to do she decides to disguise as a man and soon after she became his page, called Sebastian. In one situation Proteus sends Sebastian to deliver a letter to Silvia and with the letter he also sends her a ring (the same one which he got from Julia as a sign of great love). After valentine was banished from Milan, he was attacked by outlaws. Instead of just robbing him they started talking and Valentine lied how he was banished from the city because he killed a man. The outlaws told Valentine how they were gentlemen too but they were banished and now they live in the forest. Besides that, they told Valentine that he must become their leader or they will have to kill him. Since Valentine did not have another choice valentine agreed and became one of them, actually more than that, he became their leader. As every comedy has happy end this one was the same way. After Silvia decided to go to the city she was comforted by the outlaws who took her to their leader Valentine. Although I really do not like Proteus as a person, Jeff Bukovinsky had fantastic play. His expression of emotions was just amazing. For instance, when he managed to deceive his best friend, Valentine, as well as the Duke. Furthermore, his falling in love practically every five minutes is just unreal and silly, but he still shows it with so many great importances as it is the very last one. The Proteus as a person is just a garbage, nasty character and it is not worthy anything but the actually acting by Bukovinsky was performed just excellent and deserves all the credit. In addition, the part which I (with not big knowledge) consider as the best played by Bukovinsky was one where Silvia and Proteus were in the forest. There, after refusing his love Proteus having no other choice threatened to rape Silvia (â€Å"Ill force thee yield to my desire†). At the very beginning of the play the audience seemed very excited and tried not to miss anything, and the excitement increased as the show went on. In the second part of the play everyone was paying sharp attention, especially at the moment when Duke found out about Silvia’s and Valentine’s hidden love. Everyone seemed itchy and was waiting for the end even though most of them knew what was going to happen, they were eager to see the scene. The most emotional scene in audience was when the Duke approved love between his daughter and Valentine. I personally think that the play left much more impressions and was much more interesting than actual reading to me. At the play I felt like I was so into it, and could not move my eyes from the stage. At some point, I understood everything that was going on which was not true in case while I was reading the book. Hence, all the credit from me goes to the actual play. Arrangement of characters on stage and just carrying out the performance was fantastic and at the same time professional. I did not notice any single mistake by the actors, and every step they were taking seemed like taken with a big confidence, like they were doing it forever.

Most malignancies occur de novo or as recurrence of previously treated disease, related to immunosuppression and oncogenic viruses. Donor-transmitted tumors are rare. From 1994 – 2001, the US Transplant tumor registry reported 18 donor-related cancers in 108,062 recipients. Case Presentation History A 66-year-old female presents with abdominal fullness, fevers, chills and malaise for 1 week’s time. Admitted to transplant service to rule out rejection. Past Medical History End Stage Renal Disease status post cadaveric renal transplant 3 months prior Hypertension Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 -Anemia of chronic disease Social History: No tobacco, alcohol, or drug abuse Medications: (do I really need strength and frequency?) MRI Abdomen/pelvis A few indeterminate T1 and T2 hyperintense lesions in the periphery of the transplant kidney, suspicious for neoplasm. Innumerable bone marrow and splenic lesions, suspicious for hemorrhagic metastasis MRI of brain Diffuse bony metastases, no signs of intraparenchymal metastasis PET: Positive for multiple lesions in the transplant kidney, bone, and spleen. CT guided Bone marrow biopsy: Metastatic malignant neoplasm, quite consistent with metastatic malignant melanoma **Within days of patient’s admission, it was discovered that the recipient of the liver from the same donor developed melanoma within the transplanted liver and the recipient of the mate kidney had developed melanoma in the renal allograft. **The transplant center reported no known history of donor melanoma and normal visual inspection of donor organs at time of transplant. Clinical Course Patient elected to undergo allograft nephrectomy. Surgical pathology of removed donor kidney confirmed malignant melanoma that was BRAF-V600E mutation positive (insert histo slide of melanoma in kidney) Patient was taken off of all immunosuppressive therapy and was started on chemotherapy with zelboraf and immunotherapy with ipilimumab (completed 4 months of zelboraf and 4 cycles of ipilimumab) Patient currently off of chemotherapy, and undergoes repeat imaging every month. At 6 months, CT body from 6 months â€Å"demonstrates basically stable disease.† This patient is now undergoing hemodialysis for her end stage renal disease The two other recipients died from metastatic melanoma found in the transplanted liver and renal allograft; this patient is the sole survivor of the transplanted melanoma. Transmission of melanoma by organ transplantation (VIPER) Not only is melanoma the most common fatal form of skin cancer, it is the most common tumor responsible for donor-derived malignancy. The late disease recurrence of melanoma is related to the dormancy of melanoma. Major theories for the dormancy of melanoma include cell-cycle arrest and blocked angiogenesis. Per Lancet article entitled â€Å"Transmission of donor melanoma by organ transplantation,† late recurrence of dormant melanoma can occur because of micrometastases or solitary dormant cells. Dormant micrometastasis occurs because of the inability for angiogenesis; therefore there is an equilibrium between cell proliferation and apoptosis and thus an inability of malignant cell growth. In dormant solitary cells, there is an absence of proliferation or apoptosis, in essence a pause in cell growth. Because of these theories, it is possible that these dormant cells stay latent in immunocompetent individuals for decades and even forever, but the immunosuppression of the organ recipient can reactivate the melanoma cells. Transplantation for end-stage organ disease has become routine care with resultant increased demand for donor organs. With increased public awareness and donor pool expansion, many transplant programs are easing criteria for selection by accepting older donors and those with remote history of low-grade skin cancers and/or remote â€Å"cured cancers.† A recent study reported 23 cases of donor-transmitted melanoma from 12 separate donors between 1972 and 2006. Only 2 donors had known history of melanoma and one case of fatal melanoma occurred from a donor who had surgically removed melanoma sixteen years prior to donation. History of melanoma remains a contraindication to organ donation given melanoma high transmission rate of 74% and mortality of 58%. Treatment of donor-related melanoma involves withdrawing immunosuppression and allowing the body to reject the transplanted organ, followed by explantation of the allograft carrying the melanoma cells. Summary Melanoma incidence in the general population is increasing, but whether this will translate into increased incidence of donor-transmitted melanoma and resultant increased mortality remains to be determined. Physicians must not only discuss risks of malignancy with transplant candidates, but also carefully question all donors and their family about recent and remote malignancy, particularly melanoma, given its high transmission rate and mortality. Sentirse Conjugation in Spanish, Translation, and Examples

The verb sentirse is a reflexive verb that means to feel. It is used to talk about how someone feels psychologically or physically. For example, Me siento feliz (I feel happy) or Nos sentimos cansados (We feel tired). This verb can also be used as a non-reflexive verb, sentir, in which case it can have several different meanings. It can mean to feel or sense something, and sometimes it can even mean to taste or hear something. For example, Siento el viento en mi cara (I feel the wind on my face) or Siento sabor a chocolate en la bebida (I taste chocolate flavor in the beverage). Sentir can also mean to be sorry, as in the common expression lo siento (Im sorry) or Siento que hayamos llegado tarde (Im sorry that we arrived late). Sentirse Conjugation Since sentirse is most often used in its reflexive form, this article includes sentirse conjugations including the reflexive pronouns in the indicative mood (present, past, conditional, and future), the subjunctive mood (present and past), the imperative mood, and other verb forms. Notice that sentirse is a stem-changing verb. This means that in some conjugations, when the vowel of the stem is in a stressed syllable, the e changes to ie and sometimes i. For example, the present tense first person singular conjugation is me siento, and the preterite third person conjugation singular conjugation is se sintià ³. When conjugating sentirse, make sure to avoid confusion with the verb sentarse (to sit down), which has a very similar conjugation. Present Indicative When conjugating a reflexive verb, you must always include the reflexive pronoun before each conjugated verb.
